BEFORE NUMBER ONE AUTO SALES...

Before Sid Phillips founded Number One Auto Sales in 1995, he worked for a local bank.  He was a loan officer for 10 years, and then was promoted to head up their dealer finance program.  As is common with small banks, a merger took place that created a lot of “big bank” changes and regulations.  Sid did not agree with many of the changes taking place, so he began thinking about a career change.  During his time as the bank’s dealer rep, he met a lot of different car dealers.  He realized dealers that were consistently successful were the ones who took good care of their customers.  So of course, he adopted this philosophy once he started his journey in the

car business.  As a result, Number One Auto Sales was born.  



BUILDING THE FAMILY BUSINESS

Sid started small.  He built a 12x24 office that sat on a small gravel lot with about 10 vehicles.  Later, he built a three-bay garage that housed the service and detail departments.  As his business grew, so did the need for more space.  He built a bigger office building and expanded his inventory to 30-40 vehicles.  

Sid comes from a long line of small business owners, dating back to the early 1900s.  Sid’s father Bill owned and operated Shannon’s Hardware on Main Street in Buckhannon.  Sid was taught from a young age that in order to run a successful business, your priority must be to take care of your customer.  If you don’t, someone else will.  Sid applied these principles of integrity to his own business, and the rest is history.



BECOMING A FATHER/SON ENTERPRISE

In 2006, Sid’s son Shea joined the family business.  Sid taught his son the same principles of integrity that his father Bill taught him.  Ask any of Shea’s customers, and they will tell you that he means what he says, and he’s here to help them in any way he can.  That’s why they keep coming back to him again and again.  Shea currently handles all sales and finance for Number One Auto Sales, so when a customer comes to the lot, Shea is with them through the entire buying process.  



NOT JUST ANY SERVICE DEPARTMENT

Sid realized early on that in order to sell better vehicles, he needed a service department that was second to none.  But this isn’t just your average service department... it’s an exclusive service department.  Limiting service exclusively to his customers, Sid is guaranteeing that when his customers need an appointment, they get in fast.  With other service departments, it takes weeks, or even a month to get in for an appointment.  When it comes to transportation, that can be very inconvenient.  But when you buy from the Phillips family, you are gaining access to faster service.

You would think that getting in for an appointment faster would mean having to pay more money for the convenience, right?  Wrong.  Number One Auto’s labor rates are much less than most other places.  Why?  Because Sid and Shea want to show their customers how much they appreciate them.  And what better way to show them than by getting them in faster and saving them more money?



QUALITY DEALER AWARDS

Number One Auto Sales has been recognized by Preferred Warranties, Inc. for a West Virginia-record 19 consecutive years for selling better vehicles.  The annual Quality Dealer Award is given to the top 50 dealers in the United States for the lowest claims ratio on warranties.  This is further proof that Number One Auto Sales really does sell better vehicles.



RECOGNIZED FOR INTEGRITY

To Sid and Shea, there is no bigger honor than being recognized for their integrity.  In 2010, Preferred Warranties did just that.  Out of thousands of dealers, Number One Auto Sales earned the Integrity Award, given annually to a dealer who conducts their business the right way.  Sid and Shea also earned the Pursuit of Excellence award from Preferred Warranties two years later.  




30 DAY WARRANTY?  HOW ABOUT 90 DAYS!

When a vehicle arrives at Number One Auto Sales, it must go through the service department before it can be sold.  This is not a law... this is a Phillips Family rule.  To prove that their vehicles are better, Sid and Shea decided that the typical 30 day warranty just wasn’t good enough for their customers.  So in 2010, they rolled out the 90-day, 5,000-mile warranty.  If a vehicle is sold on their lot and it doesn’t have any factory warranty remaining, it automatically comes with this 90-day warranty absolutely free.
